The Making of the Documentary “THE LIFE and TRAVELS of Lama Govinda” The feeling of the documentary is historical. We follow his life chronologically, from his birth in Waldheim in the former kingdom of Saxony (Germany) in 1898 to his death in 1985 in Mill Valley, California. The main objective of the documentary is to portray the life and travels of Lama Govinda as an intellectual, an accomplished painter and poet, mystic and initiate. Get to understand his habits, temperament and mannerisms as a man and as a Buddhist. Govinda was indeed a man of many talents and he is best remembered for giving the world a deeper insight into Buddhism. The documentary shows the background story of Ernst Hoffmann (Lama Govinda). His 30 years stay in India under the British Raj, but also in Sri Lanka, Burma, and Tibet. The Second World War; independence of India and the invasion of Tibet. The final part of the documentary is based on his lectures tours around the world and his last residence in the United States of America.
